HELSINKI (Chatnewstv.com) — Finland will deploy a military detachment to Denmark to help safeguard Danish airspace and counter potential drone threats during a series of international meetings in Copenhagen, the Finnish Ministry of Defence announced Tuesday.
The decision, made by the President of the Republic upon the proposal of the government, is a direct response to a request from Denmark, a fellow Nordic country and NATO ally.
The Finnish Defence Forces will send a unit specifically trained and equipped for “identifying and countering drones.” The detachment will operate under Danish command and control, with Danish authorities assuming overall command of the operation.
“By joining the operation we send a concrete message of support to another Nordic country and NATO Ally,” said Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen. “Drones are a topical threat, and Finland has strong capability in countering them.”
The deployment was prepared by the Ministry of Defence in accordance with Finland’s domestic legislation governing international assistance and cooperation.
