First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Speaks Out on World Cancer Day

In commemoration of World Cancer Day, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has issued a heartfelt statement emphasizing the significance of raising awareness and taking concrete actions towards the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.

In her statement, the First Lady stressed the importance of this year’s theme, “Closing the Care Gap,” stating, “This year’s World Cancer Day presents an important opportunity to raise awareness and elaborate further the message of prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer.” She highlighted the need to deepen efforts in establishing necessary infrastructure to address health challenges, ultimately leading to improved care for cancer patients and survivors.

The First Lady passionately conveyed a message of solidarity, emphasizing that no one should face the challenges of cancer alone. She urged for continued empathy, care, love, and support for individuals battling cancer, while also advocating for increased awareness and better service delivery.

In a poignant moment, Oluremi Tinubu called on the global community to celebrate those who have triumphed over cancer, stating, “Also, we are to celebrate those who are cancer-free.” This gesture underscores the importance of acknowledging and honoring the resilience of individuals who have successfully overcome the disease.

As World Cancer Day serves as a platform to unite in the fight against cancer, the First Lady’s words echo the global sentiment to stand together in addressing the complexities of this pervasive health issue. Her call for increased awareness, empathy, and support reflects a shared commitment to building a world where no one has to face the challenges of cancer alone.
