Issa Hayatou, the legendary African football chief and former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has passed away according to reports. He was 77 years old.
Hayatou holds the record as the longest-serving CAF President, having held the position for 29 years. His tenure was marked by significant growth and development in African football.
In 2017, in what was considered a major shakeup for the sport on the continent, Hayatou lost the presidency to challenger Ahmad of Madagascar.
The cause of Hayatou’s death is currently not officially out. His contributions to African football will be remembered and his legacy will continue to influence the sport on the continent.
