ABUJA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has summoned Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, over allegations of criminal breach of trust and unlawful possession of property.
The summons, issued by Justice Maryann E. Anenih, accuses Bello of committing the offences between 2016 and 2023, according to documents made public on Friday.
Bello, who was earlier declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged money laundering, now faces charges under Section 311 of the Penal Code Law, Cap. 89 Laws of Northern Nigeria, 1963, which deals with criminal breach of trust. The offence is punishable under Section 312 of the same law.
The EFCC, via its official X handle, posted the summons dated October 3, 2024. The anti-graft agency further indicated that Bello is also charged under Section 319A for allegedly possessing property suspected to have been unlawfully acquired.
The former governor’s legal team has yet to comment on the case.
