Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday, received 2025 Founders’ Sunhak Peace Prize in Seoul, South Korea.
The award, initiated by Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation, aims to continue the legacy of late Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church.
It recognises individuals and organisations that have contributed to global peace and human development.
The award is divided into two categories – Sunhak Peace Prize and the Founders’ Award.
Jonathan, the first African to win the Founders’ Award, was nominated for “fostering democratic development and peaceful transitions of power”.
In a post on Facebook, Jonathan dedicated the award to all Nigerians committed to peace and progress.
He said, “This honour belongs to every Nigerian who believes in the possibility of peace and to every African working selflessly for the progress and advancement of our continent.”
“I congratulate other awardees and thank the co-founder of the Universal Peace Federation, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation, as well as my wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, for her love and support.”
Other recipients of the award are Wanjira Mathai, Hugh Evans, Patrick Awuah, and Samuel Radebe.
