HELSINKI — The leaders of the G7 on Tuesday reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself while blaming Iran for stoking instability and terror across the Middle East.
“We reiterate our support for the security of Israel,” the G7 said in a joint statement, adding, “Iran is the principal source of regional instability and terror.”
The leaders emphasized the need to protect civilians and warned that Tehran must never acquire nuclear weapons.
“We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” the group said.
The statement also called for broader de-escalation across the region, including a ceasefire in Gaza.
As tensions continue to rattle global markets, the G7 pledged to closely monitor developments.
“We will remain vigilant to the implications for international energy markets and stand ready to coordinate… to safeguard market stability,” the leaders said.
