G7 Leaders Condemn Iran’s Actions, Call for De-escalation in Middle East

BRUSSELS (ChatnewsTV) — The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations expressed grave concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East, issuing a strong condemnation of Iran’s military attack on Israel and the broader destabilizing actions of its regional proxies.

In a joint statement on Thursday, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Israel’s security, decrying Iran’s role in empowering armed groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. “Iran’s actions pose a serious threat to regional stability,” the G7 leaders stated, calling for coordinated efforts to prevent further escalation.

“We call on all regional players to act responsibly and with restraint,” the statement continued. The G7 urged constructive engagement to de-escalate the situation, emphasizing the need to uphold international humanitarian law.

Marking the anniversary of Hamas’ attacks on October 7, 2023, the leaders condemned the “unjustified acts of deliberate violence” and stood in solidarity with the victims and families of hostages. They reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, backing efforts by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt to broker a comprehensive deal.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza also drew deep concern from the G7, with leaders stressing the urgency of full, unhindered access for aid. “Tens of thousands of innocent lives have been lost,” the statement noted, calling for protections for civilians and an end to the conflict. They further endorsed a two-state solution, envisioning Israel and Palestine living peacefully side-by-side.

The statement also highlighted concerns over Lebanon’s deteriorating security, calling for a cessation of hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border and reaffirming support for United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. The G7 leaders emphasized the need to stabilize Lebanon and provide humanitarian assistance to its civilians.

“We underscore the importance of the United Nations in resolving armed conflict,” the G7 said, acknowledging the UN Interim Force’s role in Lebanon and pledging continued support for peace efforts in the region.
