As Ukraine nears the thousandth day of Russia’s ongoing war of aggression, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations have issued a strong statement of solidarity with Kyiv, pledging unwavering support in the fight for sovereignty and peace.
“We, the Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7), reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine for as long as it takes,” the statement read, published jointly by the Prime Minister’s Office at 10 Downing Street and The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP on November 19, 2024. The declaration comes amid heightened concerns over the enduring impact of the conflict, not only on Ukraine but also on vulnerable populations worldwide.
The G7 leaders emphasized their continued backing for Ukraine’s fight for “sovereignty, freedom, independence, territorial integrity, and its reconstruction.” Highlighting the devastating toll of the war, the statement acknowledged the “immense suffering endured by the people of Ukraine” over the past 1,000 days, lauding the Ukrainian people for their “unmatched resilience and determination in defending their land, culture, and people.”
The international community’s focus remains on holding Russia accountable. “Russia remains the sole obstacle to just and lasting peace,” the G7 noted, underlining its commitment to imposing “severe costs on Russia through sanctions, export controls, and other effective measures.”
The statement concluded with a resounding message of unity. “We stand united with Ukraine,” the leaders declared, vowing continued support until a lasting resolution is achieved.
