LONDON (CHATNEWSTV) — The foreign ministers of the G7 nations on Saturday called for immediate de-escalation between India and Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, warning that further military action could destabilize the region.
In a joint statement issued by the United Kingdom’s Foreign Office, the G7 ministers — representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union — strongly condemned the April 22 attack and urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint.
“We strongly condemn the egregious terrorist attack in Pahalgam and urge maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan,” the ministers said. “Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability. We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides.”
The G7 urged both countries to pursue direct dialogue and avoid any actions that could worsen tensions in the already volatile region.
“We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome,” the statement read. “We continue to monitor events closely and express our support for a swift and lasting diplomatic resolution.”
The attack in Pahalgam left multiple civilians and security personnel dead, prompting fears of a renewed military standoff between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
