WASHINGTON (ChatnewsTV) — On the 10th anniversary of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, ministers from around the world convened in Washington, D.C., reaffirming their commitment to combating the terrorist group. “The Coalition remains dedicated to defeating ISIS wherever it operates,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during the meeting on Tuesday.
In a joint communiqué, ministers praised Iraq’s leadership in the Coalition and commended its progress in repatriating over 10,000 nationals from northeast Syria. “We honor the sacrifices of those who fought and died to liberate territories from Daesh/ISIS,” the statement read.
The Coalition’s efforts now focus on stabilizing areas liberated from ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Ministers endorsed a plan to raise $394 million for stabilization efforts, with $200 million already pledged by members.
Additionally, ministers pledged to combat the spread of ISIS across Africa, Central, and Southeast Asia, while condemning ISIS-K’s attacks in Asia and Europe. Blinken emphasized, “We will continue to mobilize global resources and share intelligence to counter the threat posed by ISIS.”
The Coalition also welcomed the Maldives as its newest member, bringing total membership to 87, and committed to enhancing cooperation with African and Central Asian states.
“We stand united in ensuring ISIS is defeated,” the ministers affirmed, noting that efforts will continue in line with international law and human rights standards.
