ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — An Abuja-based gospel singer, Oluwatimileyin Ajayi, known for his soulful performances and fitness enthusiasm, has been arrested after being caught with the severed head of his girlfriend, authorities said.
Ajayi, described as a multi-talented artist and prolific songwriter, was apprehended Sunday near a church in the Orozo area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Social media videos circulated widely, showing Ajayi carrying a black nylon bag trailed by flies. Upon being accosted and searched, a fresh human head, believed to be his girlfriend’s, was reportedly discovered inside the bag.
“I got the shock of my life as we apprehended a Yahoo ritualist with a human head (his girlfriend) inside a nylon close to our church as we were holding service,” a witness, identified as Arike, wrote online. “I thought I just used to watch things like this until I experienced one live today.”
In the video, Ajayi, who hails from Kabba, Kogi State, admitted to dating the woman for a year but claimed he did not know her origins. He alleged that an argument between them escalated when she attempted to stab him with a knife.
“I didn’t plan this,” Ajayi said in the video. “She tried to stab me, and I defended myself. That’s how I ended up killing her.”
Authorities are investigating the gruesome incident, with many questioning how someone celebrated for his gospel artistry could be implicated in such a heinous crime.
