Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has called for the establishment of a military base in the southern part of the state to address ongoing security challenges. The governor made this appeal during a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Government House in Katsina on Tuesday.
Governor Radda outlined the state government’s efforts to combat insecurity, highlighting the creation of a local security outfit known as the Katsina Community Security Watch. He also announced plans to expand these efforts by training additional community watch corps members to operate in 10 more local government areas, supplementing the 1,466 personnel currently active.
“We have concluded arrangements to train another set of community watch corps to operate in 10 additional local government areas, augmenting the 1,466 personnel already on the ground,” Radda said.
He further elaborated on a Community Development Programme aimed at involving local communities in enhancing safety across the state. “This programme includes a 25-member committee responsible for identifying areas of need and exposing criminals and their accomplices,” he explained.
General Musa, in his address, revealed that his visit was part of a tour across Northwestern Nigeria to assess the security situation. He assured that efforts are underway to restore peace and security in the region, emphasizing the importance of public support in achieving this goal.
The defence chief commended Governor Radda for initiating the Katsina Community Security Watch, noting that it would significantly contribute to improving security in the state. He stressed that security personnel cannot be everywhere and called for the cooperation of all citizens in restoring peace in Katsina State and the entire Northern region.
