Rivers State, Nigeria – Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS has given the green light for the construction of a transformative bridge that promises to seamlessly connect the Kalama community to the wider region. The Kalama Development Initiative, a dynamic socio-political group established in 2018, has lauded this move as a significant step towards bolstering the state’s infrastructure.

In a statement signed by founder Sobere Opusunju, MBCS, and Head of Administration Comrade Inyie Okpukpo, the Kalama Development Initiative expressed gratitude for this vital infrastructure project. “This bridge will significantly improve access to markets, schools, hospitals, and other essential services for the people of Kalama,” the statement read.

The initiative also recognized Hon. Joe Johnson, the Hon. Commissioner for Information from Epellema, for his unwavering advocacy during the State Executive Council meeting. Johnson’s commitment to his constituents played a crucial role in advancing the project.

The ambitious construction plan encompasses a 5.75 km stretch from Kalaibiama to Epellema, incorporating a 450-meter bridge equipped with solar lighting. This strategic development is expected to bolster transportation safety and foster greater connectivity among the communities.

Confidence is high in Monier Construction Company Nigeria Limited (MCC), the appointed contractor, to deliver the project within the stipulated timeline and budget. A 30 percent mobilization fund has been allocated to facilitate a smooth construction process.

Governor Fubara’s vision of “Rivers First” is encapsulated in these infrastructure ventures, including the Trans-Kalabari Road and the Kalaibiama-Epellema Road. These projects are anticipated to unlock the economic potential of the coastal and riverine areas of Rivers State.

The state government’s dedication to its citizens’ welfare is evident in these progressive undertakings. The Kalama Development Initiative is optimistic that these projects will herald a new era of prosperity for Kalama and its neighboring communities.
