High-Profile Figures Gather in Port Harcourt to Honor Late Nimi Obata Grant-Offor

By Agu Ifeanyi

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — The city of Port Harcourt became a focal point of national sympathy this weekend as leaders from the worlds of business, politics, and entertainment gathered for the burial of Mrs. Nimi Obata Grant-Offor.

The ceremony, held in Omagwa, Rivers State, drew a massive crowd of mourners who came to pay their final respects to a woman widely described as a pillar of philanthropy and community service.

Among the prominent figures in attendance were billionaire entrepreneur Obi Cubana, former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and celebrated gospel minister Mercy Chinwo.

A Legacy of Service
Mrs. Grant-Offor was remembered not just for her family ties, but for her extensive contributions to healthcare, education, and social initiatives across the Niger Delta region.

“She was a woman whose quiet contributions touched countless lives,” said one attendee during the service. “This gathering is a testament to the warmth and dedication she showed to everyone, regardless of their status.”

Peter Obi, who joined the family in prayer for the repose of the late matriarch’s soul, offered condolences to the bereaved, noting the importance of her legacy in nurturing community values.

A Fusion of Faith and Business
The event highlighted the deep connections the Grant-Offor family maintains across Nigeria’s social strata. Obi Cubana’s presence underscored his long-standing ties with the Port Harcourt business community, while Mercy Chinwo, a native of Rivers State, led the congregation in spiritual reflection.

“Her life was a celebration of unity and compassion,” a representative of the family said. “To see so many people from different sectors come together in her honor is deeply moving.”

Tight Security and Elegant Tributes
Despite the high-profile nature of the guests, the ceremony remained a solemn and orderly affair. Security was tight across Omagwa to manage the influx of traditional rulers, senior clergy, and influential politicians from across the country.

The venue featured elegant décor that served as a fitting tribute to Mrs. Grant-Offor’s life. Mourners noted that the well-organized program reflected the dignity with which she lived her life.

As the ceremony concluded with musical tributes and prayers, attendees spoke of an inspired commitment to continue her work in social advocacy and local development.
