BUDAPEST, Hungary (ChatnewsTV) — The Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will host an informal meeting of the Ministers for Employment and Social Policy (EPSCO) on October 9-10, 2024, in Budapest. The high-level gathering will focus on labor shortages, demographic challenges, and social inclusion as key priorities for boosting the EU’s competitiveness.
Ministers from EU member states, representatives from EFTA countries, EU institutions, and organizations such as the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Eurofound, and the International Labour Organization (ILO) are expected to participate. Representatives of European social partners will also join the discussions.
Improving labor market reserves and enhancing social inclusion are top concerns. “Addressing labor shortages and maximizing untapped labor potential are critical steps in tackling Europe’s demographic challenges,” Hungarian officials said ahead of the meeting.
The two-day event will be divided into two key sessions. The morning session will focus on employment, where an ILO representative will present on global labor shortages. Following the presentation, ministers will exchange views on mobilizing untapped labor resources.
The afternoon session will center on social inclusion, with discussions on integrating persons with disabilities and those with reduced working capacities. Ministers will explore national legislation and best practices for implementing reasonable accommodations.
