A High Court sitting in Ibadan on Tuesday, adjourned the ruling on the bail application of ex-queen of Ooni of Ife, Naomi Shilekunola Ogunseyi, Ibadan-based popular radio broadcaster; Oriyomi Hamzat, and the School Principal; Abdullai Fasasi until next week Monday, January 13.
The presiding judge, Justice Kamarudeen Olawoyin acknowledged the high stakes of the case and public interest it has generated before adjournning the ruling.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Olawoyin adjourned the ruling on the bail application until next week, Monday, January 13, 2025.
The defendants who organised the event that resulted in a stampede that killed 35 children are accused of negligence and endangering public safety.
They subsequently applied for bail, which was opposed by the Oyo State legal counsel led by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Abiodun Aikomo.
During today’s hearing, the defense team urged the court to grant bail, arguing that the accused pose no flight risk and are committed to cooperating with investigations.
Barrister Abiodun Aikomo on the other hand, strongly opposed the motion, citing the gravity of the charges and the need to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
