U.S. President Donald J. Trump on early Tuesday announced what he called a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” agreement between Israel and Iran, marking what he described as the official end to the 12-day conflict that has shaken the Middle East.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!” Trump wrote in a statement posted on his Truth Social account. “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!”
According to Trump, Iran is expected to begin the ceasefire, followed by Israel 12 hours later. The war will be officially declared over 24 hours from the start of the process.
“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR,’” Trump said.
He praised the restraint shown by both sides, claiming the war “could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!”
Trump ended the statement with a flourish:
“God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
There was no immediate confirmation of the ceasefire from either the Israeli or Iranian governments.
