ITF and CIPMN Mull Special Certification for Artisans

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) has partnered with the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) to launch a special certification for Nigerian artisans, aimed at enhancing their skills and professionalizing the industry.

At a press briefing over the weekend, ITF Director-General/Chief Executive Dr. Afiz Ogun announced the commencement of the special certification for artisans trained under the Skill Up Artisan Programme (SUPA). He highlighted that this collaboration will also develop a training program for both trainers and artisans.

Dr. Ogun emphasized that this partnership with CIPMN is a game-changer for the practice of artisanry in Nigeria. “Beyond elevating the practice and professionalizing artisanry, the concept provides artisans with the critical knowledge needed to organize work and craft for success,” he stated. Artisans who pass the requisite examination will become certified Project Managers and members of CIPMN in a special category.

He remarked, “Our work is not done yet, for we have just begun our ambitious march to transform the face of artisanry in Nigeria. These artisans are happy and hopeful because they see the efforts being made to change their circumstances.”

Dr. Ogun also mentioned the federal government’s commitment to improving the conditions for artisans across all trades, urging Nigerians to be patient regarding the planned protest on August 1, 2024. He appealed to protest leaders to remain patient as President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda is being diligently implemented. “It is not designed to be enjoyed for a fleeting moment but to last, endure, and benefit Nigerians of all shades and stripes,” he added.

CIPMN Registrar Mr. Henry Mbadiwe also spoke at the event, noting that the collaboration and the introduction of project management learning to artisans’ development is unprecedented in Nigeria. He said the initiative aims not only to improve skill levels within the informal sector but also to elevate the status of those who practice these trades.
