WASHINGTON (CHATNEWSTV) — A federal judge in Washington, D.C., has halted the deportation of individuals linked to the violent Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang, prompting a swift condemnation from Attorney General Pamela Bondi, who accused the court of endangering public safety.
“Tonight, a D.C. trial judge sided with Tren de Aragua terrorists over the safety of the American people,” Bondi said in a statement. “TdA, represented by the ACLU, poses a direct threat to our communities. This order disregards long-standing legal precedent affirming President Trump’s authority to secure our borders.”
The ruling comes amid heightened concerns over immigration enforcement, with the Biden-era policies reversed under Trump’s administration. The Department of Justice has vowed to challenge the decision, emphasizing what it calls an urgent need to curb gang-related violence tied to illegal immigration.
“We will continue working alongside the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, and all our partners to stop this invasion and Make America Safe Again,” Bondi added.
The American Civil Liberties Union, which represented the migrants, praised the decision, arguing that the administration’s mass deportations violate constitutional protections.
The ruling is expected to face legal challenges as the administration pushes forward with its broader immigration crackdown.
