Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has vowed to file criminal charges against an Islamic school teacher, Malam Nura, for brutalising an 11-year-old Almajari student, Isah Muazu.
Recall that pictures of young Muazu surfaced on the internet after he was allegedly brutalised by Mr Nura in Suleja, Niger State.
Speaking when he received the boy, Mr Sani expressed sadness over the incident.
He emphasised that no part of the Qur’an supports the severe corporal punishment of underage children.
He said the victim, along with other children from similar Almajiri schools who have suffered abuse, have been repatriated back to Kaduna from Niger State.
He emphasized the need to provide Islamic and formal education without subjecting children to dehumanising punishment.
“We have brought back all the children from Niger state. We have a better Tsangaya system in Kaduna State where we will give them Islamic and formal education.
“There is no place in the Holy Quran that says underage children have to be taken away from their parental care before they get an Islamic education. We don’t want to see children roam the streets begging,” Governor Uba Sani affirmed.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Rabi Salisu, had said the boy was receiving treatment in a state government hospital before undergoing psychosocial treatment.
