KYIV, Ukraine — Estonian High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas pledged unwavering European support for Ukraine during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on December 1, marking the first day of the second von der Leyen Commission.
According to a press statement released by Pedro Fonseca Moniz, Press Officer for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kallas highlighted the broader implications of the conflict.
“This is not just a European issue; it’s a global one,” Kallas said, noting the role of external actors like China, Iran, and North Korea in supporting Russia.
“Europe is determined to rally its global partners to ensure Ukraine’s victory, which is critical for international stability.”
“This meeting is symbolic and underscores Ukraine’s importance to the new European Commission, the European Council, and to me personally as a long-time advocate for Ukraine,” Kallas said.
She emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to aiding Ukraine, including military, diplomatic, and political support.
“We must do everything to stop this war—weakening Russia while strengthening Ukraine through weapons, ammunition, and training for soldiers,” she stated, reiterating the EU’s commitment to continued assistance.
“There is unity at the European level to support Ukraine, and more help is definitely on the way.”
Kallas concluded her remarks with a resolute message: “Ukraine will win, and we are here with you.”
