BRUSSELS (CHATNEWSTV) — EU High Representative Kaja Kallas on Thursday warned that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion of withdrawing support for Ukraine was a “dangerous gamble” and urged Europe to step up its own military and economic strength.
“We should not underestimate our own power,” Kallas said ahead of a Special European Council meeting on defense and security.
“We need to invest more in defense and ensure Ukraine can end this war on their terms.”
EU Defense Push and Hungary’s Blockade
Kallas emphasized that all options—grants, reallocation of funds, and changes to fiscal rules—were being considered to boost European defense. She also acknowledged Hungary’s resistance to Ukraine aid but said a “coalition of the willing” could move forward without unanimous EU agreement.
EU Role in Ukraine Peace Talks
Rejecting suggestions that the U.S. should lead Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations, Kallas insisted that “Europeans need to be on it,” as the war directly impacts European security.
