KANO, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), his spokesperson announced Saturday.
The appointment, which takes effect Monday, February 10, 2025, was made based on Ibrahim’s extensive experience and expertise, said Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson.
“Ibrahim’s decades of service and leadership will be instrumental in advancing the administration’s development agenda,” the statement said.
A veteran bureaucrat, Ibrahim has held several key positions in Kano’s civil service. From 2001 to 2015, he served as Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the SSG, where he advised the government on policy options. He later became Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services, briefly acting as SSG in 2013 and 2014.
Ibrahim has also played a role in major government committees, including the State Payroll Standing Committee and the Coordinating Committee on Independent Power.
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Ibrahim is expected to leverage his expertise to strengthen governance in Kano.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in his choice, stating that Ibrahim’s leadership would help drive the administration’s policies and ensure the state’s continued development.
