KANO, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano has reshuffled his cabinet, dismissing five commissioners and several key officials as part of a broader effort to enhance the administration’s effectiveness.
A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, on Thursday revealed that the cabinet overhaul also saw the sacking of the governor’s Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose office has been abolished, and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who was dropped on health grounds.
The dismissed commissioners include Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, who headed the Finance Ministry; Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs; Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, the Commissioner for Special Duties; and Abbas Sani Abbas, who oversaw Rural and Community Development.
In addition to these changes, the governor reassigned portfolios to several “surviving” commissioners, ensuring continuity in key areas. Among those retaining their positions are the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi; the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud; the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran; the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar; and the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Musa Suleiman Shannon.
Other commissioners who retained their positions include Sefiyanu Hamza (Solid and Mineral Resources), Shiekh Ahmad Tijani Auwal (Religious Affairs), Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso (Youth and Sports), Adamu Aliyu Kibiya (Investment and Commerce), and Mohammad Inuwa Idris (Internal Security and Special Services).
Several officials also had their portfolios reassigned. Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulssalam moved from the Ministry of Local Government to Higher Education, while Mohammad Tajo Usman was transferred from Science and Technology to the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata was reassigned from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Other changes included Amina Abdullahi, who moved from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled, and Nasiru Sule Garo, who transitioned from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to Special Duties.
The Governor emphasized that the reshuffle was aimed at improving governance and aligning the administration’s leadership for optimum performance. “This decision was made to drive more dividends of democracy to the people of Kano state,” Kabir-Yusuf stated, adding that the reshuffle is part of a political realignment in his administration.
