Kano Industrialist Nasiru Ahali Dies at 108

KANO, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Nasiru Ahali, a pioneering industrialist and chairman of Mainsara & Sons, has died at the age of 108, his family confirmed Friday.

His son, Aminu Ahali, said the businessman passed away Thursday night at a hospital in Kano.

Ahali was regarded as one of Kano’s earliest industrialists, credited with establishing a formal business environment with an organized structure. His ventures spanned book publishing, printing, block manufacturing, quarrying, importation, real estate, and metal works.

He also endured personal tragedy during the Maitatsine uprising in Kano in 1980, when insurgents stormed his home, held his family hostage, and executed two of his sons.

Ahali’s funeral prayer is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Nasiru Ahali Jummu’a Mosque, Kurna Asabe.
