Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf signed a supplementary budget of N99.2 billion into law, aimed at addressing critical state needs, including the implementation of the new national minimum wage for civil servants, preparation for the upcoming local government elections, and provision of school uniforms for primary school pupils.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the governor emphasized the importance of the new budget, stating that it would help cushion the effects of rising costs of goods and services in the state.
“This new budget will allow us to meet key obligations, including the payment of the new national minimum wage and ensuring the success of the local government elections,” the governor said. “We are also making provisions to supply school uniforms to primary school pupils and address the skyrocketing prices of goods and services that have impacted ongoing projects.”
The supplementary budget comprises N68.2 billion allocated for personnel and overhead costs, while N30.9 billion is set aside for capital expenditure. The total state budget for 2024 now stands at N536.5 billion.
The governor extended his gratitude to the Kano State House of Assembly, particularly acknowledging the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore, for their collaboration with the executive arm of the government.
“I appreciate the support of the Kano State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore, whose dedication to our shared goals has helped ensure the successful passage of this supplementary budget,” he said.
With the newly signed budget, Kano State government aims to address both short-term financial needs and long-term development goals amidst economic challenges.
