Katsina Governor Deliberates Flood Prevention Mechanism With Stakeholders

The Katsina State Government has engaged critical stakeholders that would proactively work together to avert possible flooding in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Katsina, said that the decision for the engagement was a directive from Governor Dikko Radda.

Garba-Faskari said that the engagement was sequel to the flood alert received from NiMET’s predicted flooding in Katsina.

“According to the prediction, the local government areas that may likely experience flooding in the state are Bakori, Bindawa; Funtua, Jibia, Katsina, Daura, and Kaita.

“The governor wanted the stakeholders to work together in taking proactive measures to avert possible flooding,” he said.

The SSG said that the stakeholders included the Commissioners for the Ministry of Health, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Environment, Water Resources, as well as Information and Home Affairs.

He said that others were that of Agriculture and Livestock Development, and the Executive Secretaries of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and Environmental Protection Agency, SEPA, and the affected local government chairmen.

Garba-Faskari said that the stakeholders were expected to work together to proffer and take measures that would assist in averting the disaster, by sensitising residents on the menace.

He said that all the stakeholders have a vital role to play in averting the disaster in the state as a whole.
