ABUJA, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to set aside personal ambitions and unite behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, saying the president needs a second term to complete key reforms.
“Every single APC member in Nigeria today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, irrespective of whether it affects your personal interest or not,” Keyamo said Monday in an interview on Channels Television. “He does need a second term to fully finish up all these reforms.”
The minister warned that a change in administration could derail the reforms already underway.
“It will be tragic for any government to come in 2027 and stop all these reforms,” he said. “This is what has happened in the past when you had all the inchoate policies that were implemented.”
Keyamo also addressed the recent defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC, revealing that he ceded party leadership in the state as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the ruling party ahead of the next elections.
“Whether I have to make sacrifices like yesterday, where we surrendered [party leadership in Delta], it is all irrelevant so long as we are strengthening the APC more for the re-election of Mr President,” he said. “I don’t care whether it affects me, I don’t care whether I lose out politically; Mr President must be elected.”
He dismissed the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as weakened, noting the significance of Oborevwori’s defection.
“The PDP knows that they have lost something like their soul,” Keyamo said. “Delta was one of the major funders of the PDP; they have lost it.”
