TEHRAN, Iran (Chatnewstv.com) — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has dismissed growing calls from reformist figures to change the country’s domestic and foreign policies, insisting that Iran’s standoff with the United States cannot be resolved.
Speaking on Aug. 24, Khamenei said that “Iran’s enemies” had failed to defeat the Islamic Republic during the recent Israel-Iran war and are now attempting to destabilize the country by “creating discord.” He accused agents of the U.S. and Israel, along with “heedless speakers and writers,” of fueling division.
The phrase appeared to be a rebuke of reformist leaders who have urged the government to soften its approach. Former President Hassan Rouhani said on Aug. 13 that Tehran should make concessions to its people, bolster social resilience, and ease tensions with the West. The Iranian Reformist Front also issued a statement on Aug. 17 urging political reforms and a shift in foreign policy, including suspending uranium enrichment under international monitoring.
Khamenei rejected those appeals, saying the conflict with Washington is “unsolvable.” He also ruled out direct talks with the United States but left open the possibility of indirect negotiations.
