Agency Report –
Berlin – Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany stressed that young talent Mathys Tel is “still a Bayern player” and will be in the squad for the Bundesliga game against Holstein Kiel on Saturday amid speculation over a last-minute transfer.
“What’s important is that the player is still a Bayern player. Every player can be selected until the last moment. My role here is always to use the players available,” Kompany said in a news conference on Friday.
Tel, who has a contract with Bayern until 2029, has reportedly been pushing for a transfer due to his lack of playing time at the Bundesliga club.
The winter transfer window closes on Monday and, according to media reports, Tottenham are the frontrunners to sign the teenager with an offer of €60 million ($61.3 million).
Bayern didn’t confirm this, but board member for sport Max Eber said: “When we receive an astronomical offer for a player, then we must decide which steps to take, both in sporting and financial terms.”
He added: “Mathys can imagine a move away. We need to come to terms with the facts. Whether it’s a loan or a sale, we’ll see.”
Bayern top the Bundesliga six points ahead of champions Bayer Leverkusen. Kompany said that all players who played against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League on Wednesday should be available for the game against Kiel.
