Agency Report –
Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro is convinced that playmaker Florian Wirtz and coach Xabi Alonso won’t leave the club before the end of their respective contracts.
Wirtz is a target of Bayern Munich, but Carro said that the German record champions haven’t contacted Leverkusen yet and he believes that there’s a “very high probability” that the player will stay at the club after the current season.
“He has a contract,” Carro told broadcasters Sky ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga game against Union Berlin. Wirtz deal with Leverkusen runs until 2027.
Despite the speculation that Wirtz could move to Munich, Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness recently said that the club would need a fund to sign the Leverkusen star, and, therefore, his signing “is not in discussion at the moment.”
Alonso, meanwhile, is constantly linked to a move to his former club Real Madrid, where he would reportedly replace Carlo Ancelotti.
But Carro again stressed: “He has a contract with us (until June 2026), he feels good here. We’re planning for the next season with him.”
