Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Becomes First Ever Professor In Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna has announced the promotion of Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam to the position of Professor of Mechatronics Engineering.

This promotion marks a historic moment as Imam becomes the first-ever serving personnel in the Nigerian Army to attain the rank of professor.

The announcement was made by Brig.-Gen. AM Tukur, the Registrar of the Academy, in a statement released on Friday in Kaduna State. The promotion, which was ratified during the NDA Council Meeting in September, officially took effect from October 1, 2023.

Gen. Tukur emphasized that the decision to elevate Lt. Col. Abubakar-Surajo Imam to the esteemed position of professor reflects the council’s confidence and recognition of his significant contributions to the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Academy.

The Registrar praised Professor Imam for providing exemplary services and upholding the high standard of excellence expected in his field. In his statement, Gen. Tukur said:

“This recognition not only honours Professor Imam but also highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Defence Academy to acknowledging and rewarding outstanding contributions within its academic community.”

This historic promotion underscores the NDA’s dedication to fostering excellence and acknowledging the achievements of its personnel in the academic realm.
