YOLA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — Police in Adamawa State have arrested a man who climbed a 33KV high-tension electricity pole in Mayo-Belwa to demand the resignation of President Bola Tinubu. The dramatic incident took place between Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28.
The unidentified man remained on the pole for nearly two days, refusing to descend until President Tinubu resigned. Locals in the Mayo-Belwa area, along the Yola-Jalingo highway, gathered as the man insisted on his demands during the local market day on Friday.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the man was eventually rescued on Saturday night after authorities enlisted local residents to persuade him to come down. “The man was taken into custody and is currently being detained in Yola,” Nguroje said.
“The Command is going to parade the man today (Monday) for attempting suicide,” Nguroje added, noting that attempted suicide is a criminal offense under Nigerian law. “We are going to charge him to court.”
Nguroje emphasized the responsibility of the police to protect lives and maintain order, stating, “When an individual attempts to take his own life, he has to be made to face the law.”
