Aston Villa got a 2-1 victory against Manchester City at the Villa Park on Saturday.
John Duran and Morgan Rodgers made Villa victorious with the two goals, while Man City which used to dominate the English Premier League (EPL) failed to thrill their fans.
Three key players of Man City including the defender, Ruben Dias who was injured, and the attackers, Kevin de Bruyne and Jeremy Doku couldn’t participate in the match.
The only goal scored by City which was also their only win in eight league games was by Phil Foden.
Aston Villa found its way into the EPL champions from the first whistle and should have taken the lead in 20 seconds, but a shot by Duran was saved when clean through on goal.
Two minutes later, Man City goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega produced a better save on Pau Torres’ header, pushing the latter’s effort onto the bar to keep the score level.
Villa Park eventually took the lead in the 17th minute with a superb team move. Youri Tielemans released Morgan Rogers, and the midfielder unselfishly squared for Duran to slot into the net for 1-0 to Unai Emery’s side.
Man City’s performance improved in the latter stages. Foden tested Emiliano MartÃnez with a routine shot before a glancing header from Josko Gvardiol cleared the wrong side of the bar, and the hosts went into the break 1-0 ahead.
In the second half, a goal by Duran was disallowed, Matty Cash hit the side-netting, and Rogers hit the post.
Rogers, a former Man City player, doubled Villa’s lead with an angled finish from a low shot for 2-0.
The defeat makes it Man City 6th lost league games before the season’s midpoint, which is its highest number of defeats in a season since the 2020/21 campaign.
On the other hand, Aston Villa moved up to fifth position with 28 points from 17 matches, as Man City dropped to sixth place, a point behind Villa.
