KAFUR, Nigeria (CHATNEWSTV) — Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Masari said Sunday that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains the only credible option to address Nigeria’s challenges, dismissing reports of a political merger as a gathering of “disgruntled” politicians.
Masari, speaking at the inauguration of APC’s campaign for the Katsina State local government elections scheduled for Feb. 15, urged Nigerians to remain patient with the party despite ongoing economic hardships.
“The news making rounds on social media that some politicians are teaming up for a merger is nothing but a regrouping of those who lost political favors in the APC, in terms of appointments or patronage,” Masari said. “Their attempt to form an alliance will not divert the attention of APC from implementing programs that could assuage the pains of the common man.”
The former Katsina governor reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stating that his allegiance was not based on political ambition.
“I am in APC today, tomorrow, and always because I am not in the party for any political position or appointment,” he said.
Masari urged party loyalists to promote APC’s achievements and called on voters in Kafur Local Government Area to turn out en masse for the upcoming election.
Speaking at the event, Ibrahim Kabir-Masari, senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on political matters, encouraged APC members to remain united, announcing that Tinubu had approved major infrastructure projects in the region.
“The president has awarded a contract for the reconstruction and upgrading of the Zaria-Malumfashi and Funtua-Yashe roads to facilitate socio-economic activities,” he said, adding that Tinubu had also approved the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture in Nabanje, Masari.
