“Massive Resources Wasted on Rivers Political Crisis” – Fubara Vows to Obey Supreme Court Ruling

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has announced that his administration will comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the ongoing political crisis in the state.

On February 28, the Supreme Court upheld a federal high court decision that prevents the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the accountant-general of the federation from disbursing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.

The Supreme Court’s ruling also directed the faction led by Martin Amaewhule, along with other elected members of the Rivers House of Assembly, to reconvene and resume their sessions.

Furthermore, the court invalidated the local government election that took place in Rivers State on October 5, 2024.

During the inauguration of new judges’ quarters in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasised his commitment to adhering to the court’s decision for the benefit of Rivers’ residents.

He noted that the ongoing political turmoil has resulted in a significant waste of resources among the conflicting parties.

“The supreme court has given a judgment; my administration will implement the judgment to its fullest. The reason is clear; it is not about me, it is about the good of this state,” Fubara said.

“You can imagine the kind of waste that has taken place on both sides. These are monies that, if we had used them in the affairs of this state, there would have been a lot of things to show.

“I can assure you everyday that I have not done bad by my statement that nothing is too big for peace in this state. At the end of the day, it is about our people. It is not about me.

“It has not been an easy 16 months. What is important is that the interests of our state must be above personal interests.”

The political crisis in Rivers State has intensified due to the ongoing tensions between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
