STUTTGART, Germany (CHATNEWSTV) — A shining example of individuality and craftsmanship, the Mercedes-Benz C 280 “Sport” from 1996 takes center stage in Collection Room 5 at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
Painted in striking designo green metallic, the C 280 exemplifies the brand’s dedication to personalization.
“This model radiates a bold statement of energy and verve,” the museum said in a statement on Friday.
First introduced in 1993 as part of the 202 series, the C 280 was the top model in the inaugural C-Class lineup, powered by a 2.8-liter six-cylinder engine delivering 193 horsepower. The featured “Sport” variant boasts a dynamic suspension lowered by 25 millimeters, wide-base tires, and AMG-designed light-alloy wheels.
Inside, the sporty aesthetic continues with a custom green-and-black interior. “The designo interior is a testament to Mercedes-Benz’s expertise in blending saddlery craftsmanship with modern art,” the statement added.
The debut of the designo customization program in the 1990s allowed customers to create vehicles that reflected their unique preferences. Today, the MANUFAKTUR program continues this legacy of personalization, offering bespoke options for paint finishes and interiors.
For visitors with color vision deficiencies, the museum provides free EnChroma® goggles, enabling them to fully appreciate the vibrant designo finishes.
“Mercedes-Benz has always been about individuality,” the museum noted. “This C 280 reminds us of the brand’s ongoing commitment to marrying aesthetics, performance, and personal expression.”
The C 280 “Sport” is part of the “Close-up” series, where the museum highlights unique stories and features from its extensive collection of automotive icons.
