NAPTIP Summons Speed Darlington Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct With Minor

National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has summoned musician Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, for questioning over allegations of s3xual misconduct with a minor.

The summons, issued on May 28, 2025, and released on Thursday, follows a viral Instagram Live video where he allegedly admitted to engaging in s3xual activity with a 15-year-old girl, claiming it occurred about ten years ago and resulted in bloodied hotel sheets.

It wrote, “Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to s3xually abusing a minor. Failure to respond may lead to further action”.

NAPTIP’s letter cites violations of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act 2015, urging him to appear at their Abuja headquarters on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. with legal representation or relevant documents.

The two-page summon read, “We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in s3xual acts with an underage girl. Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.

“These actions, if substantiated, constitute offences under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015. Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

“You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview as regards the alleged actions on Friday, 30th May, 2025, by 9 a.m. at the NAPTIP Headquarters: 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT.

“Kindly bring along any legal representation or documents you may consider relevant. Please be informed that your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action.”

Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) escalated the matter to NAPTIP after public outrage, as the incident’s location was unspecified, limiting their jurisdiction.

Speed Darlington later claimed in a follow-up video that his statements were a publicity stunt to promote a new song, apologising for any distress caused.

NAPTIP’s Cyber Crime Response Team is investigating the video and related content, emphasising their commitment to protecting minors from exploitation.
