Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Kogi Central lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan are set to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions (SCEPPP).
This announcement was made by the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Nwebonyi noted that other lawmakers will also testify about the allegations of sexual harassment made by Akpoti-Uduaghan against the Senate President. He confirmed that all parties involved, including Akpabio, will provide their accounts to the committee for consideration.
Akpoti-Uduaghan has alleged that during a visit to Akpabio’s residence, he held her hand, guided her around the house, and made inappropriate advances, even in the presence of her husband.
In response to these allegations, Nwebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North, accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of attempting to divert attention and expressed that the Senate is not affected by the claims. He emphasized the importance of “prima facie” evidence, indicating that without clear, surface-level evidence, a case may not hold.
“She knows quite alright that what she is saying is to divert attention but we are not disturbed because we know the truth.
“On the alleged date of the incident, so many senators were there. I am one of the star witnesses, I will come and tell the world what I saw,” he added.
