STOCKHOLM (Chatnewstv.com) — Sweden said Wednesday it will host a NATO logistics headquarters, strengthening the alliance’s ability to move and supply troops across Northern Europe.
The government has directed the Swedish Armed Forces to prepare for the opening of the Joint Logistics Support Group Headquarters (JLSG HQ) in the town of Enköping, with operations set to begin by the end of 2027.
The headquarters, part of NATO’s command structure, will initially staff about 70 personnel in peacetime and expand to as many as 160 in wartime or heightened alert. Staffing will be coordinated by NATO, with officers seconded from all allied nations.
“NATO presence in Sweden strengthens our security and deterrence,” Defence Minister Pål Jonson said in a statement. “The logistics centre assists the defence of NATO’s northern flank.”
Each NATO Area of Operations has a JLSG HQ to oversee transport and maintenance of military units. With Sweden and the other Nordic countries grouped into NATO’s Northwest Area of Operations, Stockholm said the new hub is a strategic necessity.
The Swedish Armed Forces will provide regular updates to the Defence Ministry as the headquarters takes shape.
