ABUJA (CHATNEWSTV) — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 41-year-old ex-convict and Malaysian returnee, Ndubuisi Udatu, for attempting to smuggle 2.7 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside two large music speakers in Adamawa state.
Udatu, also known as Richard, was apprehended by NDLEA operatives on April 7 at a checkpoint along the Ngurore-Yola road in Namtari while traveling in a commercial bus. Officials said the meth was destined for distribution in Yola, Mubi, and across the border into Cameroon.
“Following his arrest, the suspect confessed he returned to Nigeria to resume drug trafficking after serving a jail term in Malaysia,” said Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the NDLEA, in a statement Sunday. “He was found in possession of four meth parcels and a monetary exhibit of ₦22,300.”
In a separate border operation at Mfum in Cross River state, NDLEA and Nigeria Customs personnel intercepted 35-year-old Odoh Peter Ikechukwu with 8,740 ampoules of opioids weighing 395 kilograms, including 1,080 ampoules of fentanyl injection, a highly potent synthetic opioid.
“This is a significant seizure,” Babafemi said. “Among the opioids recovered were morphine sulphate, phenobarbital sulphate, pethidine, and midazolam injections.”
Further arrests were made in Kano and the FCT. On April 11, 27-year-old Aliyu Ibrahim was found with 25,600 tramadol pills and 20 ATM cards at Bachirawa, Kano. His arrest led to the capture of Gambo Lawan, 48, in Abuja’s Wazobia motor park, linked to a separate tramadol seizure on April 7 along the Gwagwalada expressway.
In Niger state, officers recovered 124 kilograms of skunk cannabis packed in 11 jumbo bags from the trunk of a Lexus vehicle driven by 58-year-old Ademiluyi Adedapo Collins along the Mokwa-Jebba road.
Meanwhile, NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continued in schools, markets, and religious centers across the country. Educational outreach programs were held in Anambra, Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Adamawa, and Kwara states.
NDLEA Chairman and CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.) commended the agency’s officers for their work across multiple fronts.
“Our commitment to curbing drug supply must match our drive for drug demand reduction,” Marwa said. “I urge all officers not to relent in this national effort.”
