LAGOS, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency is collaborating with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency to trace the cartel behind the importation of 1,000 kilograms of cocaine discovered at the PTML Terminal of the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos.
Port operators reportedly found the consignment in an empty container last weekend and alerted key stakeholders, including the NDLEA, Customs, and other security agencies, for a joint inspection. NDLEA’s field tests later confirmed the substance as cocaine.
The shipment was formally transferred to the agency’s custody on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, after a series of meetings between NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) and Comptroller General of Customs Dr. Adewale Adeniyi.
According to the NDLEA, the cocaine valued at more than $235 million (₦338 billion) represents one of the largest single seizures ever recorded at the Tin Can Port.
Given the global dimension of the case, Marwa directed the immediate involvement of the agency’s international partners. Officers from both the DEA and NCA have now joined the ongoing probe.
“The essence of collaborating with our international partners on this case is to ensure no stone is left unturned and every gap is sufficiently covered,” Marwa said.
“Ultimately, we want all the masterminds of this huge consignment brought to book wherever they are across the globe.”
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that investigations are ongoing at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
