New ₦70,000 Minimum Wage to Take Effect from July 2024, Committee Announces

BUJA, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) — The Committee on Consequential Adjustments in Salaries for civil servants has announced that the implementation of the new minimum wage will begin on July 29, 2024.

The decision was outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) issued at the conclusion of the committee’s meeting, which was obtained by our correspondent on Friday in Abuja.

“The NSIWC will generate the appropriate salary templates for other consolidated salary structures for implementation; the effective date of the implementation shall be July 29, 2024,” the MoU stated.

The committee, established to enforce the provisions of the National Minimum Wage Act 2024, consists of 16 members. Its mandate includes negotiating salary adjustments and creating a framework for implementing the newly approved minimum wage, which has been raised from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.

This development is expected to impact a wide range of civil servants as the new wage structure takes effect nationwide.
