Abuja, Nigeria (chatnewstv.com) — Nigeria and Angola have signed a bilateral agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports, Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry said Sunday, in a move aimed at strengthening official travel and cooperation between the two African nations.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, according to a statement posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria.
“Nigeria and Angola have signed a Bilateral Agreement on the Waiver of Visa requirements for holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports,” the ministry said.
The accord is expected to facilitate easier movement for government officials and diplomats, streamline bilateral engagements and deepen institutional ties between Abuja and Luanda.
Both countries are among Africa’s largest energy producers and have expanded cooperation in recent years across oil and gas, maritime security and regional diplomacy, particularly within multilateral African platforms.
The signing took place on the margins of the African Union summit, which convened regional leaders to discuss continental integration, security challenges and economic cooperation.
The visa waiver applies specifically to diplomatic and official passport holders and does not extend to ordinary passport holders.
