Operatives of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have arrested 90 foreign nationals over alleged involvement in cybercrime in Rivers state.
Y.l. Abdulmajeed, the state’s NIS comptroller disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Abdulmajeed said the arrests were made in collaboration with other security agencies that the operation, adding that the successful operation followed an intelligence report.
He said, “The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested 90 illegal immigrants for cybercrimes committed to defrauding innocent Nigerians.”
“The suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence, in partnership with other security agencies.”
The comptroller noted that of the suspects included 74 males and 20 females, where as 85 were Cameroonians, five were Chadians, and 4 were Nigerians.
He added that all 90 foreigners entered Nigeria through unauthorised points and did not have travel documents or residence cards.
The comptroller said two Nigerians who allegedly provided accommodation for the
suspects were also arrested.
He noted that Kemi Nandap, NIS comptroller-general has ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the incident.
