ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — The Nigeria Immigration Service on Thursday announced an increase in the cost of obtaining a passport, with the new rates set to take effect on September 1.
In a statement, the agency said the upward review affects only applications made within Nigeria. Under the new structure, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will cost ₦100,000, while a 64-page passport with 10-year validity will cost ₦200,000.
The NIS clarified that the fee adjustment does not apply to Nigerians abroad.
“Nigerian passport application fees made by Nigerians in diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for 32-page with five-year validity and $230 for 64-page with 10-year validity,” the statement said.
The immigration service said the changes are part of an ongoing review of operations and services, but gave no further explanation for the increase.
