Nigeria Prepares for Emergency Evacuation of Citizens from Lebanon Amid Israel-Hezbollah Conflict

Abuja, Nigeria (ChatnewsTV) – The Nigerian government has begun preparations for the emergency evacuation of its citizens residing in Lebanon, as the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah conflict poses increasing risks to their safety. According to a press release issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the decision follows the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon.

The Ministry stated that the government “has taken measures to ensure the protection and safety of Nigerian nationals in the country,” affirming that arrangements are underway to bring them back to Nigeria.

The Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon has been actively monitoring the situation, issuing regular safety advisories to the Nigerian community. In August 2024, the embassy recommended voluntary evacuation while commercial flights remained accessible.

“Nigerian nationals in the South of Lebanon have also been evacuated to Beirut and other safer areas in collaboration with the leadership of the Nigerian community,” the statement read, emphasizing that no Nigerian life has been lost since the onset of the conflict.

Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of Nigerians abroad. “The Federal Government is engaging with relevant stakeholders and remains committed to the protection and safety of Nigerian nationals, as preparations are being made to evacuate them back home,” Abu-Obe said in the release.

The embassy continues to provide support and guidance to Nigerians in Lebanon, while the government coordinates the logistics for their safe return amidst the escalating crisis.

The move comes as part of broader efforts by the Nigerian government to safeguard its citizens in volatile regions affected by international conflicts.

The Ministry reassured Nigerians that it remains vigilant and responsive to the developments in the region as evacuation plans take shape.
