The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its deepest condolences to the First Family, the Government, and the People of the Republic of Namibia on the sad demise of His Excellency, President Hage Geingob. The late President passed away in Windhoek on Sunday, 4th February, 2024.
President Geingob was a true Pan Africanist and Nationalist, leaving an indelible mark on the history of Namibia. His significant contributions towards the attainment of Namibia’s independence in 1990, coupled with his unwavering commitment to development, solidified his legacy as a statesman. His efforts in positioning Namibia as a leading democracy in Africa will forever be remembered.
The late President Geingob shared a warm and robust friendship with Nigeria, actively fostering relations between the two nations at both bilateral and multilateral levels. Nigeria mourns the loss of a dear friend and stands in solidarity with Namibia during this period of national grief.
In a statement, Mrs. Francisca K. Omayuli, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed Nigeria’s deep sadness at the passing of President Geingob. “His deliberate efforts in strengthening the ties between our nations have left an enduring impact, and his loss is deeply felt. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family, the Namibian Government, and the people of Namibia.”
The Federal Government of Nigeria prays for the repose of President Hage Geingob’s soul and wishes his family, the Namibian Government, and the people of Namibia the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
