ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held his inaugural security meeting Monday with the newly appointed service chiefs at the State House, days after a sweeping overhaul of the country’s military leadership.
The meeting follows the president’s move Friday to relieve the former service chiefs of their duties, marking the second major restructuring of the military hierarchy since he took office in May 2023. The changes come amid weeks of public speculation regarding an alleged failed coup attempt.
Under the new appointments, Lieutenant Gen. Olufemi Oluyede was named Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding Gen. Christopher Musa. Before his promotion, Oluyede served as Chief of Army Staff.
Other top posts filled in the shake-up include Major Gen. Waidi Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff and Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral Idi Abbas was appointed the new Chief of Naval Staff.
Major Gen. Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye retained his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
