ABUJA, Nigeria (Chatnewstv.com) — A prominent Nigerian lawmaker and businessman has publicly defended his embrace of polygamy, claiming that having multiple wives offers greater balance in life, while expressing pity for men in monogamous marriages.
Sen. Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, said during an interview with Channels Television that he viewed having one wife as being similar to “standing on one leg.”
“I have done so many impossible things,” Nwoko said. “The example I gave is this: just imagine telling you to stand on one leg, you know how difficult it is. But to stand on two, three, or four is much more balanced. That is just the example I gave.”
Nwoko, who has multiple wives, stated he has no regrets about his choices.
“I feel sorry for those who have one wife. Because it is difficult to stand on one leg. I do not have any regret, I will do the same thing again. This is the way it is,” he added. “That is the way it should be. You should marry who you want to marry.”
The senator also used the interview to dismiss recent allegations of domestic violence that surfaced following a viral video involving his wife, actress Regina Daniels.
“I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them. I love my kids,” Nwoko said, denying the claims. He also alleged the actress was dealing with drug and alcohol issues, though details were not immediately available.
